DS90UB947-Q1: Can 947 turn off receiving or output

Part Number: DS90UB947-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB948-Q1

hi,Ti:

Can 947 turn off receiving front-end input signals or turning off back-end output during a period of time

  • Hello,

Assuming communication with the deserializer wants to be maintained, it would be best to disable the output on the DES side instead of from the SER. In order to maintain the communication between the serdes pair, the forward channel FPD-Link should remain on.

What deserializer are you using? Would this solution work for the needs of your system?

    Best,

    Nikolas

  • The deserializer used 948, our mode_sel setting for 947 is fixed. However, some projects use single input, while others use dual input. Switching from mode_sel setting to software setting after power on can cause signal changes, this is affect the behind chip ic lock status of des

    1,can 947 turn off receiving front-end input signals ?

    2,how to turn off 948 output,is set 0x4a=0x01 ?

  • Hello,

    1,can 947 turn off receiving front-end input signals ?

I am not too sure I understand the request to disable the 947 from receiving input signals. Without input signals to the SER, the entire system would effectively not be serving its intended purpose. If you are looking to simply disable video output temporarily, it would be most effective to simply disable the video output via the DES.

    2,how to turn off 948 output,is set 0x4a=0x01 ?

This can be done by setting 0x28[5] to 1.

  • The input video can be processed but the back-end des(948) will not output the video, can 947 make this?

The scenario we use is to ensure that the 947 itself is reset or the 948 is pulled out and then inserted. The output of the 947 can be disabled, and the output can be restored after all configurations (single/dual, vesa) are done, so no temporality abnormal displayed in screen.

  • Hello,

It is possible to read and write to DES registers from the SER via I2C pass-through. This can be enabled on the 947 by toggling 0x03[3] to 1. Once this is enabled, the 947 can write to the forward channel video disable register on the 948 (0x28[5]) to stop video from being outputted on the back-end.

Would this solution be appropriate for the system's needs?

    Best,

    Nikolas

  • This method will not work,

I can't tell when the 948 terminal is removed, so when 948 is removed, 948 has an output.
When the 948 is reinserted, the output is immediately available.
At present, only by shutting down the output of 947 and waiting for 948 to be reinstalled and then enabling the output, can we ensure that there is no abnormal content output

  • Hello,

The power-up sequencing of the 948 requires that the DES must be powered up only after a compatible SER (in this case, the 947) has started sending valid video data. If this requirement is not satisfied, a reset of the DES is required after receiving the input data. This requirement prevents the 948 from locking onto any random or noise signal. Please see section 9.2 - Power Sequence of the DS90UB948-Q1 data sheet for more information on the recommended power sequencing.

Removing the 948 and subsequently reconnecting it without having video data from the SER being sent over the FPD-Link channel is not in line with the specifications, so I do not suggest attempting to pull the 948 out of the system and then reinsert without having video coming from the SER.

    Best,

    Nikolas
