TCAL9538: Rest function

Part Number: TCAL9538

The customer has the question as below:

Does TCAL9538 require reset when powering on? Or in some abnormal operation situation?

In the current situation, our MUC has no ability to judge whether there is an abnormality.

Can we not connect the reset pin to MCU and just pull it high ?

  • Hi Fabio,

The TCAL9538 does not require reset when powering on. Upon a successful power on reset, the I2C state machine and therefore the internal register map should reset back to default.

Pulling the /RESET pin high will not conduct a reset of the internal state machine. This is an active low input. This pin would need to be pulled towards GND passed 30% of VCC in order for a proper reset of the internal state machine.

    Regards,

    Tyler

  • Hi Fabio,

Just to add, the TCAL series we have supports the general call and reset feature. So the MCU can issue the reset using the I2C lines to do this.

You can just tie the #RESET pin to a pull up resistor to Vcc.
