TCA9534: Integrated TVS Diode

Part Number: TCA9534

Hello Expert,

We are using TCA9534PWR, TCA9535PWR now.

When we checked block diagram, we can't find TVS Diode internally.

Do these devices have some TVS Diode internally?

If not, do you have any recommended part which is integrated TVS Diodes?

Here is example.

Best Regards,

Michael

  • The TCA9534 does has clamping diodes from GND to all inputs and outputs. Their limits are specified as IIK and IOK in the absolute maximum ratings. If you do expect actual voltage transients, it is likely that you need to add stronger external diodes.

  • Hi Michael,

The input and output voltage in the absolute maximum specifications shows a diode structure from GND to SDA/SCL pin shown by the -0.5V diode drop in the spec.

I don't believe there is a diode from pin to VCC, only from GND to SDA and SCL.

The current specs are listed in the datasheet for these diodes as IIK and IOK, just as Clemens has stated.

These are not the strongest ESD protection components in place. If you suspect very large electrical transients, I would look into adding external ESD protection circuitry in addition to using our device.

The TPD2E2U06 might be a suitable protection diode to use for external ESD protection.

    Regards,
