[FAQ] TDP1204: What is the difference between the TDP1204 and the TMDS1204 HDMI 2.1 redrivers?

Part Number: TDP1204
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDS1204

When choosing to design in either TDP1204 and TMDS1204, the system designer should consider the differences between the two HDMI 2.1 redrivers. This thread highlights the differences and provides details on where to look for any additional details when choosing to design with either TDP1204 or TMDS1204.

  • Both the TDP1204 and TMDS1204 support HDMI1.4, 2.0, and 2.1.

The following table highlights the major features difference between the TDP1204 and TMDS1204. It is up to the system design requirements when choosing between TDP1204 and TMDS1204.

In general, the TDP1204 should be used for source applications. However, the TDP1204 can also be used for sink applications if the sink does not require a separate CLK lane and FRL_LANE3 lane as shown in the figure below. If the sink requires a separate CLK lane and FRL_LANE3 lane then TMDS1204 should be used.

Please refer to Section 3 of the following application note for more information: TDP1204, TMDS1204 Migration From HDMI2.0 to HDMI2.1.
