SN65C1168E: Vo absolute maximum rating change from SN75C1168NSR

Part Number: SN65C1168E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN75C1168,

"SN75C1168NSR", which is scheduled to be discontinued
I was comparing the data sheets of the replacement SN65C1168ENSR.

Receiver (red frame below) has been added to the Vo absolute maximum rating of the substitute.
Does it mean that there are new restrictions that were not on the products to be discontinued?

SN75C1168NSR

SN65C1168ENSR

  • In both devices, the receiver outputs are plain logic CMOS outputs. The body diode of the P-channel output transistor acts as a clamping diode to VCC, and must be protected against overcurrent.

So the SN75C1168 also had this restriction; the datasheet just forgot to list it.

  • Hi Murayama-san,

So Clemens is correct - both devices would have similar restrictions; it just wasn't specified on the older SN75C1168  - I'd imagine they were not thinking of the case where the output is pulled up so they didn't specify - that is why is most likely was also added to the upgraded version the SN65C1168E.

    Best,
