Hi team,

Is there any concern that a customer use 5.5V ESD protection device like TPD2E2U06 for CANH/CANL in industrial application?

Customer is going to use CAN FD interface between a sensor head and the controller so, it's completely for system internal communication.

    A CAN transmitter will output voltages somewhere between GND and VCC (see the VO(DOM) specification). CAN receivers are designed to handle some ground shift and allow a wider range of bus voltages (−2 V to 7 V for standard transceivers, or ±30 V for the TCAN3413), but if you can guarantee that the actual voltages on the bus never go above 5.5 V, then you can use a 5.5 V protection diode. So in this case, you have to ensure that the sensor and the controller use the same ground.

    Hirai-san,

    Clemens is correct. While electrically the 3.3 V CAN signal may not nominally exceed the spec of the protection device, the more important consideration is the possible fault/shift cases for the CAN bus. Depending on the system, there may be different requirements for GND shift (as mentioned above) or for cases where a power rail is shorted to CANH or CANL in a DC fault. If the system does not require protecting against these conditions as might be true in some industrial systems, then your protection device selection could be suitable.
