Overvoltage and undervoltage

I would like to know what the effects of overvoltage and undervoltage are on the LMH1228 and whether these same effects apply to other devices in the LMH line.

Hi Marcelo,

Overvoltage can damage electrical equipment by causing insulation breakdown, thermal stress, and component degradation.

Undervoltage can effect the overall operation of the part. If the voltage is too low, the repeater will not function.

This is the same for all the LMH line.

Hi Nick

If the supply voltage is above the maximum value stated in the device's datasheet, could the input signal suffer some type of degradation or instability and cause failures or even the device not functioning correctly?

I know that my messages may seem somewhat meaningless because they are something obvious, but I need these details to make a decision regarding our projects.

Another question, if I develop an SDI signal distributor, can I use a single voltage regulator for all LMHs or should I use a regulator for each LMH? What is Texas' recommendation for this case?

Hi Marcelo,

LMH devices have internal voltage regulators specified and characterized within the voltage range that is noted in the datasheet +- 5% so operating out of this limit the operation of the parts is not guaranteed.

You can use a single regulator. Make sure that on each LMH device you include a big capacitor, a small capacitor, possibly a ferrite bead, and other recommended supply filtering.
