CAN Transceivers keep breaking upon connect/disconnect

Part Number: TCAN334
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPD2E1B06, TPD1E10B09, TVS0701, TPD4E101, TCAN3413, ESD2CAN24-Q1

Tool/software:

I am trying to diagnose why our CAN transceivers keep breaking somewhat arbitrarily when the modules are connected/disconnected from the live system.

All our modules utilise the TCAN334DR CAN transceiver.

All modules have a ESD2CAN24DBZRQ1 located very close to the PCB CAN connectors.

According to the datasheet the clamping voltage is around 35-37V depending on Ipp:

It looks like the TCAN33x has an absolute maximum rating of +-14V on the bus lines:

Safe to say, I think I haven't picked the best CAN TVS for this transceiver, or am I missing something?

Is there a recommended TVS to use for this transceiver?

This is me presuming that the issue is being caused by transients on the bus when I connect/disconnect nodes from the bus, as this is the only time when the issue occurs.

Thanks in advance!
