Tool/software:
I am planning to use ESD diode (MPN: ESD321DPYR) in my current project.
Can you please share the details of the standard followed for the 8/20us surge.
How can i validate it at my end.

Prince

Hi Prince,
I would recommend reviewing our IEC 61000-4-x Test Overview featured on our FAQ Page under the Transient Standards Page. This document describes the testing process and I believe will answer any questions you may have.
If after reviewing this document you still have some questions, please feel free to reply here!

Hi Josh,
Thanks for your response!!
I have gone through the document which you have shared. But my query is that I am testing ESD diode (MPN: ESD321DPYR) which have breakdown voltage of 4.5V. And I am testing for 8/20us Surge Test. As per my understanding in the document, surge pulse is superimposed on the A.C. signal. But our diode is of very low voltage i.e. 4.5V. So, In my views the A.C. signal itself can cause harm to ESD diode.
Please go through the datasheet of this part no. And let me know the right equipment and procedure to perform this testing.
Hi Prince,
Can you please share the A,C, signal you are referring to? Is this the data on the signal line you are protecting? What is the voltage of this A.C. Signal?

Hi Josh,
I need to test the clamping voltage of diode at component level, not for designing
Test condition for diode is as below,
1. Surge: 8/20us pulse.
2. Peak pulse current: 6A
In the document shared by you, seems that CWG superimpose the surge on a A.C. signal. Pls refer below snapshot from the document page no. 9.
So, Please suggest how to perform this test as we required low voltage DC surge tester. so please suggest right equipment.
Hi Prince,
I believe the below diagram is the test setup for how we conduct our surge testing:
In addition, please see the below images on our Surge Testing Configuration:
Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

Hi Josh,
Thanks for your quick response.
Can you please share the part no./ model no. of the CWG/Surge generator used.

Prince
Hi Prince,
It is the Compact NX5 Series from Emtest. Here is a link to the datasheet: https://www.ametek-cts.com/-/media/ametekcts/importdata/documents/datasheets/archive/data_sheet_compact_nx5_20202003.pdf?la=en&revision=3c396e51-160b-461b-9d2b-ebdc7459e1be
