DP83826E: LED drive capability of the DP83826E

Part Number: DP83826E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , DP83826-EVM-AM2

Tool/software:

Hello.

I have some questions regarding the DP83826E.

Looking at the circuit of the DP83826-EVM-AM2, I see that the LED are driven by a MOSFET, whereas in another evaluation board, the DP83826EVM, the LED current flows directly without driving.

What is the LED drive capability of the DP83826E?

Additionally, in the DP83826EVM circuit diagram, I see that there are LEDs (LED0 to LED4) and a bypass resistor of 2.49 kΩ.

What is the purpose of this resistor?

  • Hi,

The purpose of the resistor are used for strapping. It could determine which mode the PHY is currently operate in.

The polarity of the LED pins depends on the strapping resistor. Therefore you might see variation between both EVMs.

  • Hi, Himan

    Thank you for your reply.

What I would like to know is how much current the LED terminals of the DP83826 can drive. What is the maximum current limit specified in the datasheet?

Also, what is the purpose of the 2.49 kΩ resistor on the evaluation board mentioned below? Is it necessary?

    DP83826EVM.

  • Hi,

The pull down resistance is used for strapping.

Our LED could drive up to 6mA.
