TCAN1044A-Q1: What is the relation between UART rate and CAN cable length?

Hi,

For UART over CAN application, what is the relationship between UART rate and CAN cable length across boards? For example, we use TCAN1044A-Q1 as the transceiver and we would like the UART rate as 4MHz, the recommanded CAN cable length across two nearby boards would be like? Or is there any guidance for calculation about this? Thank you!

Hi Aaron,

We don't have such information, TRX doesn't own UART over CAN devices.

For CAN transceiver's speed vs distance relationship, you can refer to this app note:

Assume a 4Mhz UART rate would need >2Mbps CAN data rate, our CAN transceiver can realize this data rate at 40m cable length. The shorter cable used, the higher data rate can be achieved.
