HD3SS215: Questions about 2:1 multiplexer for HDMI2.0a.

Part Number: HD3SS215

Hello guys,

One of my customers is considering using HD3SS215 for their new products.

At this moment, they have the following questions.
Could you please give me your reply?

Q.
They want to know whether the following functions are inplemented into HD3SS215 or not.
1. When source A signal is input, HD3SS215 outputs source A signal
with higher priolity than source B signal.

2. When HD3SS215 received a signal for source B while HD3SS215 outputs source A signal,
   HD3SS215 outputs source B signal.

3. When source A signal is not input,  HD3SS215 outputs source B signal.

Your reply would be much appreciated.

Best regards,
Kazuya.

  • Hi Kazuya,

Q1. No. The HD3SS215 has no built-in priority logic. Source selection is controlled entirely by external control pins (Dx_SEL). There is no automatic priority detection.

Q2. No. The HD3SS215 cannot detect signal presence or automatically switch sources. It requires external control logic to command the Dx_SEL pin to perform the switch.

Q3. No. The HD3SS215 has no signal detection capability. It will continue outputting whatever source is selected by the Dx_SEL control pin, regardless of whether that signal is actually present.

The HD3SS215 is a passive multiplexer that only switches based on control pin commands, it does not have intelligent source detection or priority selection built-in. Below is the switch control table:

    Thank you,

  • Hi Arya,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I understood that HD3SS215 is just passive HDMI multiplexer.

Do you have any HDMI mux which can achieve the customer requirement?

Thank you again and best regards,
    Kazuya.

  • Hi Kazuya,

Based off the customers description we unfortunately do not have a HDMI mux that is able to achieve that. Our devices require you to select the channel you are wanting to output. Based of the description a small MCU maybe appropriate here.

    Thank you,

    Arya

  • Hi Arya,

Thank you very much for your reply and I'm sorry to be late my response.

Your replies are very helpful for the customer and me.

Thank you again and best regards,
    Kazuya.
