TPD12S016: Resolution is limited to 1024x768 with Raspberry Pi CM5

Part Number: TPD12S016

I'm trying to use the TPD12S016PWR on the HDMI output of a Raspberry Pi CM5. The max resolution it offers me when the TPD12S016PWR is installed is only 1024 x 760 although the monitor supports up to 2560 x 1440 which I can get if I remove the TPD12S016PWR. It turns out that the CM5 is unable to negotiate the capabilities of the display I'm using.

What could be the possible source of the problem? Maybe the fact that the CM5 allows direct connection to I2C from HDMI without level-shifting as seen in their schematics of the carrier board CM5IO?

Is the current limit on 5Vout a possible problem?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Denis,

The Level shifter of the TPD12S016 requires an exceptionally stringent VOL from the CPU, so I doubt that the Raspberry PI is able to meet this requirement.

My best guess is that the I2C bus is experiencing data integrity issues and they are causing the system failure.

    Regards
