TDA4VEN-Q1: TDA4VHN CPSW3G Port 2 Low Bandwidth Issue

Hi TI experts,

We are developing using a dual-TDA4 solution. When testing Ethernet performance, we encountered an issue: the Ethernet connection between the two TDA4s (directly connected via SGMII MAC-to-MAC at 1000 Mbps) only achieves a bandwidth of less than 10 Mbits/sec when tested with iperf3, whether using TCP or UDP. Additionally, the CPU utilization rates displayed by top are very low, both on the client and server sides. Could you please help identify potential causes for this?

    I can observe from the Logs that you are configuring the device in Fixed Link mode from the device tree. It doesn't mean that Link is up with 1000Mbps.
    As the device is configured with a fixed-link property, Linux populates the Link is Up with 1000Mbps.

    The issue has been resolved. Currently, in TI's native code, the SGMII registers are configured for auto-negotiation, so both ends negotiate to 10Mbps. I configured the registers to fixed mode (setting CPSW3_CPSGMII_MR_ADV_ABILITY_REG_j to 0x9801 and CPSW3_CPSGMII_CONTROL_REG_j to 0x20), achieving a bandwidth of up to 950Mbps. Is there a patch available that supports both auto-negotiation and fixed-link modes?

    No, There is no patch available for forcing SGMII with 1000Gbps, Full Duplex.
    Above is valid for MAC to MAC connection and where Auto-negotiation is not supported.

    As you are both side TDA4 device, only change required will be configuring one side as SGMII Master with Auto-negotiation and other side as Slave with Auto-negotiation.

    Yes. Enable one side as the Master and the other side as the Slave, and check with Auto-negotiation enabled.
