DP83869HM: Distance between PHY DP83869 and transformer

Dear TI expert,

Is there a maximum distance between the transformer and the DC83869 PHY? I have a multi-PCB design and need to separate them.

    Hi Jessica,

    Yes, we recommend 2" or less for the entire length of the MDI trace. This would include the trace between the PHY and the magnetics as well as the trace between the Magnetics and RJ-45. This is noted in our layout app note.

    You may be able to get working communication with a longer MDI trace, however 2" is what we have known to give the most robust performance.
