TUSB8040 power consumption

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB8040

In the data sheet, supply current is said to be 460mA/VDD11 and 135mA/VDD33, or a total of about 0,95W when running high speed US-connection and no DS connections. When trying the TUSB8040, both on the eval-board and on a newly constructed board it seems that the total consumtion of the hub itself is >3W under the same conditons. It seems to be very much power to do nothing, am I missing something?

  • Hi Gunnar,

Which host controller driver are you using?  The datasheet measurement assumes that the  host controller will put unused ports in the lowest possible power states sincea hub cannot do this unless requested to by the host controller.  The native Microsoft Win 8 driver, Renesas XHCI driver, TI XHCI driver, and most of the FL1100 drivers do this.
