DS100MB201 SMBUS

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS100MB201, DS100MB203

Hello!

I am working on a project involving the DS100MB201.

1. Are the SEL pins 3.3V tolerant? Will the whole device die when the SEL pins are supplied with 3.3V?

2. I try to write/read registers via the SMBUS. The Master behaves exactly like the Datasheet description. On the other hand the DS100MB201 does never pull the Bus low.

3. The DS100MB201 draws ~70mA IDLE, is that what i should expect?

  • I checked the datasheet for the DS100mb203 and tried those smbus settings. Now the DS100mb201 responds. Looks like the smbus adress and the register mapping is the one of the DS100mb203.

TI are you serious about this? The datasheet of the DS100MB201 is faulty and it is online for such a long time...

  • Hi Johannes,

I have asked my applications engineer of this part to contact you on this.

  • Johannes,

Sorry for the difficulties with the DS100MB201.  Can you please verify the devices markings,  the DS100MB201 register set differs from the DS100MB203 so many of the registers to do not completely match 100%.

The Address connections on your schematic (ADR[3:0] = 0001) indicate a SMBus device address of A2'h,  these same connections would be a SMBus address of B2'h for the DS100MB203.  Please verify the SMBus is reading a writing to the correct address.

If all 7 channels of the DS100MB201 are powered down using SMBus register 0x01 = FF'h, I expect the current to be 65-70mA

  • I checked the device markings. It was indeed a 203 model. Unfortunately the ESD bag was mislabeled. I switched the devices and all problems were gone. Thank you for the obvious advice. A shame that I missed it.
