TLK1201A combined with Avago Optical Transceiver AFBR-57J5APZ

Hello Apps-Team,

Is it possible to connect the TLK1201A (supplied with Vcc = 2.5V) direct to the Avago  Optical Transceiver AFBR-57J5APZ   http://www.avagotech.com/docs/AV02-0671EN

(supplied with Vcc = 3.3V) without a level shifter?  Or: Is the TLK1201A interface 3.3V tolerant (LVDS and  3.3V pull-ups)

Thanks a lot.

Best regards

Martin

  • Hello Martin,

No level shifter is needed. The TLK1201A differential output pins (TXP/TXN) can be directly connected to the optical module differential input pins (TD+/TD-). The module's input pins are already internally ac-coupled and do come with a 100-ohm differential termination. The SerDes to module connection will be exactly like the one shown in Figure 2 of the module datasheet. The only optional change (for better EMI performance) would be to replace the 100ohm differential termination across the RXP/RXN with two 50-ohm terminations with a common-mode termination capacitor (e.g. 0.1uF) to ground just like in Figure 12 of the SerDes datasheet (http://www.ti.com/lit/gpn/tlk1201a).

Please let me know if you need further information.

    Best regards.

    Hassan.
