Hello Team,

Please allow me to ask you a question about cable extender device.

[Question]
Could DS15BA101 be used together with DS30EA101 using 50 Ohm coax cable ?
I believe they could be used together, however, please let us know if there is anything which should be cared.

* Customer chose DS30EA101 due to the output offset voltage level. Their requirement of Vcm is 1.2V.

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,

  • Hi Kawai-San,

Yes i believe the customer can use DS15BA101 and DS15EA101 in single ended mode. Please note:

1). Please terminate the unused 50 Ohm OUT- with 50 Ohm in series with 1 uF Cap to GND. This will provide a balanced impedance to DS15BA101 and will improve the eye diagram.

2). I believe the lowest value for the Rref is about 670 Ohm. In your schematic you are showing 487 Ohm. When using about 670 Ohm this is the maximum output swing. Can you please change to 670 Ohm and check to make sure it meets customer requirement.

3). Since we are going to use OUT+ only, therefore the swing is going to be half of when using both outputs.

  • Hello Nasser-san,

    Thanks for your advice.

1). Yes, we will terminate the negative output of DS15BA101 with 1uF and 50 Ohm to GND. I had copied figure7 in the DS15BA101 datasheet. It may be better to have the termination drawn in the datasheet, too.

2).  This is the value shown in the datasheet. It seems 487 Ohm is the setting for 800mVp-p for single ended application.
Do you have a calculation formula for Vout and Rref ?

3). Yes, I think the output voltage would be 800mVp-p when Rref (Rvo) is 487 Ohm.

    Thanks and Best Regards,

    Kawai

  • Hi Kawai-San,

Please let's use the data sheet recommended value(953 and 487 Ohm). I was thinking of another device.

  • Hello Nasser-san,

    Thanks for the confirmation!!
