Type-c USB 2.0HUB + phone charging

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25810

Hi,

I was wondering if I need to use PD to have an USB 2.0 hub (with some external devices) attached to a Nexus 5x with charging the phone simultaneously and also powering the hub from an external charger or is there an easier solution?

If I have to use PD does TI has any solution?

Thanks,

xtrp

  • I don't believe Nexus 5x requires PD. It appears to use a 15W adapter (5V/3A) which only requires Type-C with no PD. The TPS25810 would be a good device for charging a device like this.
  • Thanks for the answer. Looking at the datasheet, I'm in doubt that I can use that IC for communicating and charging the phone.

I'm not sure if I was clear enough. Just to confirm this is the right IC for me: I'd like to attach (and of course use) 2 pendrives to the phone with a USB hub. The hub should power the 2 pendrives and should charge the phone simultaneously from its own wall adapter.

  • The TPS25810 could be used on one of the downstream ports of a USB2.0 hub. The TPS25810 can do the type-C detection and power switching for that port. The USB DP/DM lines for this port would route to the USB 2.0 hub as normal. Essentially you would be converting one of the downstream ports on a hub from a type-A connector to type-C connector. USB communication for the device would still operate as if it were connected to any USB 2.0 hub.
