SN65LVPE512 Equalization, De-Emphasis and Output Swing Control

Hello,

So i have been reading a lot about the various techniques this chip uses but had a question. Specifically I have read:

www.ti.com.cn/.../slaa647.pdf

www.maximintegrated.com/.../5045

http://teledynelecroy.com/doc/dealing-with-deemphasis-in-jitter-testing

So it seems like de-emphasis and output swing control are used together. However, how does equalization relate to the output signal or these other two variables? Is this just another overall gain boost to the signal? Any app notes that may discuss these three variables used together would be helpful if any exist.

Thanks,

Brandon

  • Also i am wondering where i can put this driver. In the application information on the datasheet it shows this part on the PCB before the long length of cable. Can i put it on a PCB after the long length of cable?
  • Hi Brandon,

EQ is an input stage, de-emphasis and voltage swing are in output stage, they don't relate.
EQ conditions the input signal, then redrivers detects 1 or 0, and transmits that with different electrical characteristics.
If you want to place LVPE512 on device side, just take into account you would have to rotate the device to have the right, controller/connector connection.
