TPS65982 : Use the same voltage for PP_EXT and PP_HV

Hello Everybody,

I'd like to supply a device with USB-PD.

This device has 20V inpt can draws less than 3A most of the time. However, it has a turbo mode which can be set. If this is done, The device can draw more than 3A.

Question : Can I connect the same supply source at PP_HV and PP_EXT. In my case, the voltage stays the same, only the current source capabilitie changes.

Is your product a USB-PD Source or a Sink?

You cannot connect PP_HV and PP_EXT together to provide more current. They can both be Outputs but they need to be linked to different voltages in each of the PDOs (Power Data Object). This is done in the TPS6598X-CONFIG Tool SW.

Both FETS cannot be enabled as Inputs.

If you want to Source or Sink 5A, then you need to do it through the PP_EXT Path.

You can use a GPIO Input to indicate you are in "Turbo Mode" and the TPS65982 will update its Source/Sink capabilities from 3A (default) to 5A (Turbo, Config Set #2).
