TUSB1002EVM: Unable to detect USB3 device after adding USB 3 repeater

Part Number: TUSB1002EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1002

Hi,

I used the TUSB1002 EVM with the following setup:

A)
PC (type A)-----------USB3_1m------------(type B)EVM(type A)------------USB3_3m------------(micro B)camera
 ->stream video from camera to PC

Note: Camera is a USB3 device.

B)
PC (type A)------------USB3_1m---------------(type B)EVM(type A) --(type A)USB3 thumb drive
->Detected usb 3 device

C)
PC (type A)------------USB3_1m---------------(type B)EVM(type A)------------USB3_30cm------------(type C)USB3 harddisk
->Detected usb 2 device instead of usb 3 device

 For setup A:
1) I am unable to detect a USB3 device & cannot reset the EVM.
2) when I connected directly from camera to PC using the 3 meter cable I am able to detected a USB3 device.

I have tried almost all possible jumping setting:
- EQ from 2.5dB to 15.1dB
- mVpp from 900 to 1200
It does not help.
Can advice me what I need to do?

For setup C:

I am not able to detect the usb 3 harddisk even with a 30cm USB3 cable.

For setup B:
I am able to detect the usb3 thumb drive and able to reset the EVM.

  • Hello Peck,

Based on the details you shared It seems that for all cases you have over equalization issues. Perhaps on case 1 with the lowest settings should work fine meanwhile, the cases 2 & 3 are clear examples of over-EQ due to the short cables you used. Please keep in mind that the TUSB1002 must be configured to compensate the channel loss, therefore the best way to configure our device is by running a signal integrity test first (eye diagram measurements). Perhaps the configuration is fine from Host to Device, but the second channel (From Device to Host) needs to be configured differently since the pre-channel and post-channel are inverted.\

    Regards,

    Diego.
