SN75LVDS83: Question regarding SN75LVDS83/A/B/C

I have a few questions regarding the SN75LVDS83 series: 

1)      Why is the SN75LVDS83 not recommended for new designs?

2)      Variants A and B are equivalent to the SN75LVDS83 with the exception of package options, PLL frequency spectrum and throughput, correct?
