Hi Nanfang,

These devices both support level shifting and signal buffering - the difference is that the TCA9517 supports Fast Mode (400kHz), while the TCA9617A is able to support Fast Mode Plus (up to 1MHz).

Hello Nanfang,
The main difference is that the TCA9617 can support higher data rates (Fast Mode +) due to smaller resistance pull down FET which supports the lower resistance pull downs needed to operate at higher frequencies. This stuff is covered in the description of the device on the 1st page and is also shown in the parametric comparison tool.

Hi Fhoude,

TCA9617's datasheet talks about the pedestal and inverted pedestal. However, TCA9517's datasheet doesn't mention this. Is that meaning pedestal or inverted pedestal will not happen on the design using TCA9517? Please comment. Thanks.

Hello S.P.Lin,
The TCA9517 does not have this pedestal. The TCA9617 needs to support Fast Mode Plus so that circuit was done to reduce the fall time to help with timing.

Hi Francis,

I also checked the datasheet of PCA9617 and seems PCA9617 doesn't have the pedestal as well. And I just did a comparison among TCA9617, TCA9517 and PCA9617, I found only TCA9617's A-side detects 0.7VCCA for a quick H to L edge on B-side. Am I correct? If yes, what's the pros and cons between the implementations of TCA9617 and PCA9617?

Hello S.P.Lin,
The TCA9617B has much faster/stronger pull down strength than PCA9617 (competitors) and it supports full Fast Mode Plus for all capacitive loading and supports 30mA vs our competitors 20mA.
