TPS65982: The Ferrite Bead and Schottky Diode

Part Number: TPS65982

Hi Team,

In TPS65982 EVM reference schematic, there is a Ferrite Bead (L1) and Schottky Diode (D1) on VBUS pin. What is the purpose?

What electrical characteristics should I take care about these two parts?

Should be near to VBUS pin or Type C connector?

Thanks

  • Hi Daniel,

L1 is used to help filter any ripples on VBUS and to help with any sharp transients during any voltage transitions. D1 is used during high current disconnects to help dissipate any remaining current until switch closes.

L1 should be current rated high enough, with low DCR (~4mOhm). The inductor in our reference schematic is recommended (21 ohm @ 100MHz, 6A)D1 should be voltage rated high enough, with low forward voltage (~500mV). Similarly, the recommended diode is in our reference design (40 V, 3 A).

These should be placed near the Type C connector
