SN65LVDS95: ESD Rating Clarification

Hi,

Can you help me understand the ESD classes on the aforementioned part. The Abs Max chart list the following…

I have a few questions.

1) What is Class 2B? Is this a typo? Should it say 1B? 883 does not have a 2B.

2) Bus Pins = 21 pin paralle databus or serial buses?

3) What class are the pins? Specifically the LVDS outputs.

Hello David,

Yes, it should be a typo. The correct classification is Class C3.

In the ESD ratings the "Bus pins" correspond to the 21 input pins.

The Class 3A voltage stated in the datasheet should be the Human Body Model and the Class C3 would be the Charged Device Model.

Hi Joel,

Thanks for sending this over. The way I understand this is that all pins are rated to 6KV HBM. This includes the high speed LVDS outputs, correct? Why distinguish between “All Pins” and “Bus Pins” if they are all
the same?

Hi David,
You are right all pins are indeed rated at 6KV HBM, so it is actually redundant in the datasheet. I'm not sure if there was an particular reason for having this distinction. I will try to find the people involved in this data.
