SN75188: Output Characteristic and Frequency Range

Part Number: SN75188
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN75189,

Hi,

I am using SN75188 for converting 5V,0V 16 kHz square wave to -7V,7V 16 kHz square wave and using SN75189 to process opposite convertion. I have shown the dataheet information of them. I considered that i considered that i can do this operations with these ICs. Am i right? That was my first question. The second is i cannot find any information related to frequency range of ICs. Is 16 kHz signal value available for operation? If you share your idea, i will be happy.

  • Hello,

Your idea is correct. Those parts will convert the signal and be processed. the 188 will convert a 0 - 5 V signal to -7 - +7 V if the ±VCC is ±9 V.  and the 189 will process those voltage and output 0 - 5 V. The only problem I found is the operating frequency of the parts. the 188 has the lowest frequency min, which has a min transition time of 2.5 μs which is equivalent to 400 Khz. You can compute the operating freq from the "switching characteristics" table. the 189 part has an even higher minimum frequency.

  • Thank you so much. My frequency is about 16 kHz (maybe it will be able to increase to 96 kHz) so it is sufficient.
