TPS2511: I Need a lower RdsON than a TPS2511 can give me

Part Number: TPS2511
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2549, TPS2513, TPS2561, TPS2557

I have a design that I would like to decrease the RdsON that I am getting with the current part, a TPS2511.

I have looked at a TPS2549 but it does not seem to have the option to present the divider2 voltages to the D+ and D- lines.

Is there another part that will get  a lower RdsON but still allow 2.0 and 2.7V to be sent to D- and D+.

Other Options that I am looking at are:

(1) TPS2513 and (1) TPS2561

or

(1) TPS2513 and (2) TPS2557

I would be grateful for any direction that you can give me on this.

Sincerely,

Shawn

  • Shawn,

What is the end product that you are designing? Do you have a Rdson requirement for the product?

  • Atiq,

The  product is an update to a USB charger with a remote USB connector.   The current product uses a TPS2511 at the remote connector location.

The update moves the remote connector several feet from the power supply itself.  I am trying to reduce the I2R voltage drop so that we can maintain

the USB specifications (5V +/- 5%) while being able to also provide 2 amps to the device being charged.  I have increased the wire gauge but would

also like to decrease the "ON" resistance that we are seeing with the TPS2511.

  • Hi Shawn,

After looking through TI's portfolio for a USB Dedicated Charging Port Controller, the TPS251XX family would best suit application requirement to support USB DCP Applying 2V on D+ and 2.7 on D- and vice versa.

As you can see below, using the TI parametric search table, TI offers the TPS2511 which would provide the lowest Rdson out of the other compared devices to fit your application needs.

  • Jimmy,

I am looking for  a device or devices that would provide an even lower RdsOn than I am currently getting from the TPS2511.

Are you suggesting that there is no better part than the TPS2511 that I am already using?

    Thanks for your reply,

    Shawn

  • Hi Shawn,

Yes the TPS2511 is the lowest Rdson USB Decicatde Charging Controller that TI provides that will meet your application needs.
