HD3SS3220: May I have some question regarding HD3SS3220?

Part Number: HD3SS3220
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB322, HD3SS3212

Dear SIR:

May I have some question regarding HD3SS3220?

My question is "How to select between HD3SS3220 and TUSB546 for USB3 Type C design ?"

Change another word:What's condition(application) select HD3SS3220 for USB3 Type C design ? What's condition(application) select TUSB546 for USB3 Type C design ?

Thanks

  • Hi TAlex,

The HD3SS3220 is a passive 2:1 MUX with DRP controller for Type-C (Power Delivery is not supported). Basically, the applications is a HUB, USB host, tables, among others.
On the other hand, the TUSB546 is a USB Type-C with DP ALT Mode linear redriver (no passive switch). The main applications includes docking stations, desktops, system that requires switch between USB3.x and DP signals.

  • Dear SIR:

Thank for your reply,But may I double confirming the detail meaning regarding your reply as below:

The HD3SS3220 is a passive 2:1 MUX with DRP controller for Type-C (Power Delivery is not supported). Basically, the applications is a HUB, USB host, tables, among others.
On the other hand, the TUSB546 is a USB Type-C with DP ALT Mode linear redriver (no passive switch). The main applications includes docking stations, desktops, system that requires switch between USB3.x and DP signals.

==>(1)Is that (DRP controller) meaning "Dual Role Port"?

(If that (DRP controller) meaning  is "Dual Role Port" ,more confirming item : TUSB546 without DRP controller ?(TUSB546 no support Dual Role Port?))

(2)Is that (no passive switch) meaning "HD3SS3220 without re-driver (so call that "passive")

and TUSB546 have re-driver  (so call no passive switch ,change another word "TUSB546 is active switch because it have re-driver? ")

    Thanks

  • Hi TAlex,

    1. DRP controller refers to Dual Role Port as you mentioned.

    2. HD3SS3220 has built-in a passive MUX (HD3SS3212) + TUSB322 (USB Type-C DRP Port with VCONN). Hence this MUX does not have any re-driver functions, the input is not modified by the device to the output. Otherwise, the TUSB546 is a USB Type-C Crosspoint Switch with LINEAR RE-DRIVER with up to 14dB Equalization.
