TRS232: RS232 Transceiver series and part selection guide

Hi,

I need to select Rs232 transceiver for industrial application.

Below are brief of my requirement

Datarate <=1Mbps

Single supply: 3.3V

Processor IO: 3.3V

IEC61000 ESD protection required

Single TX/RX or dual TX/RX

other Key 232-Standard Electrical Specifications

I am seeing a lot of series for above Rs232 spec requirement like TRSF, SN75, SN65, MAX.... Please, can someone suggest, what these series represent? What will be the best series to select?

    Hi SMK,

    I realize the naming can be a bit confusing. Most devices will have either a TRS or MAX prefix, and among these families devices with the same part numbers (after the prefix) will be the same. Devices with a TRSF prefix are generally rated for higher speeds ("F" stands for "fast"). Similarly, devices with an "E"suffix should be rated for IEC 61000-4-2 ESD tolerance. The SN65 and SN75 prefixes are generally older, less common in RS-232 devices, and corresponded to different temperature ranges supported.

    I hope that helps clarify things. You should be able to use the parametric search tool on the RS-232 product overview page to find some devices meeting these requirements. Please let me know if you have any questions in doing so.
