DP83822IF: boot strap config for RMII

a customer of mine is desinging w/ DP83822IF.

as they plan to use RMII interface, I was asked if the pull-up/-down resistors are required for Hardwar Bootstrap Config. to set the RMII or if it these pins can be left HiZ and then set the config via software (PHY Reset Control Registers)...

I couldn't find it in datasheet, sorry for asking

Hi Vincenzo,

Yes, software can configure the RMII interface. I would recommend doing a soft restart after doing this configuration through software tho.

Do the restart using register 0x16.

Hi Vincenzo,

It is still recommended to perform the strapping in HW. When changing to RMII mode, the reference clock for the PHY is changed and there may be a chance for errors in the system.

Software configuration of RMII only will work as above, but the safer option is to use HW.
