TPD4S009: is the ESD protection IC looks like its on the wrong side of the power input choke from the PC USB side?

Part Number: TPD4S009
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB4020BI

Hello All,

I am using TPD4S009 in one of my USB HUb design for ESD protection on data lines D+ and D-.

I am also using the Common mode chock filter on Power and Ground lint to protect from any EMC noise.

EMC Chock X7 in a red block and the ESD ICS X4 and X5 in a yellow box in

In this PCB EMC Common Mode chock X7 is used before the ESD IC TPD4S009 X4 and X5.

Is it make any problem with ESD protection?

Also, Is is the acceptable design for ESD in USB 2.0 HUB?

Thanks

  • Hello,

It depends on what type of common mode choke you have. The ESD device TPD4S009 has 0.8pF of cap on the line plus whatever loss the CMC has will let you know if you can pass the signals undisturbed.

Also it is much more difficult to judge a layout than a layout an schematic for ESD. If you would like you could email me the schematic at c-phillips@ti.com

  • Hello,

I need some more information on TUSB4020BI forced reset.

I am usinfg the FUSB30 USB switch IC to switch between two Upsterm USB.

But when i am switching between the PCs I am getting delay of 5 to 10s to my dwon streem ports works.

I think reseting the TSB4020BI at every time when switching the PC Will help to overcome this delay.

can you please assist me to this

    Thanks
