SN65MLVD080: Failsafe function

Part Number: SN65MLVD080

Dear Technical Support Team,

①When VID = 17.6V (indefinite value) ,  is it possible to damage or unstable behavior of R port?

②Some transceiver has short mode failsafe, Does SN65MLVD080 have it?

③If SN65MLVD080 doesn't have short mode failsafe, should I implement external bias circuit to avoid between VID=50V and VID = - 50mV?

④SN65MLVD080 has 25mV hysteresis , how does it work on my situation?

■Current  circuit

Best Regards,

  • Hello,

    1. I assume you mean VID = 17.6mV, as in the diagram! This should not cause any damage to the device.
    2. SN65MLVD080 doesn't have internal fail safe circuit.
    3. Yes; external fail safe circuit can be used to make sure the output is in a known state when VID is between -50 to 50 mV.
    4. The 25 mV hysteresis helps prevent the output from oscillating (continuously changing state) when the input VID is around 0. It is still unknown if it will be low or high, but it won't keep changing state.
