TUSB8044: USB2.0 testing question

Part Number: TUSB8044

Dear sir,

Our customer is using TUSB8044, and they want to ask a question.

Because this project is ARM based, not Windows based.

They want to confirm that is TUSB8044 suitable for the testing methodology as attachment for USB2.0??

Or do you have any suggestion??

Thank you very much.

  • CK,

The attached document is about enabling test packets from the host controller. Additional USB commands are needed to force the hub to generate test packets. The packets described in USB 2.0 spec, section 7.1.20 need to be addressed to the hub.

  • Yes, the additional USB commands are needed to force the HUB.

But the commands will come from downstream port in this test method.

So our TUSB8044 can pass the commands to the upstream port (Host)??

Or the commands from downstream port can force the hub to generate test packets??

  • The hub will pass the commands, but the setup will not generate the command for the hub to generate its own test packets or pass through the test packets from the host.

  • Why the HUB cannot pass through the test packets from the host??
As I know, if the hub can pass the commands from downstream port to the host, then host will be forced into test mode and generate test packets.
And then the HUB should pass through the test packets to downstream device, right??
  • Hi CK,

Hubs do not pass traffic to ports that are not enabled.  For typical hub downstream testing, a TEST FORCE ENABLE command would need to be sent to the port before sending the test packet.  This test tool works a bit differently, but there is no documentation about how it operates with a hub in the path  - section 3.6 just states "to be done".  TI cannot guarantee this will work with the hub in the path.
