SN65LVDS31: SN65LVDS31 connection with ds91m040

Part Number: SN65LVDS31
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65LVDS32, SN65MLVD040

Hi team,

At present, the LVDS output chip of our existing equipment is sn65lvds31 and the receiving chip is sn65lvds32. Now we need to use a transceiver of LVDS on the new equipment.

Regarding the interconnection between old and new equipment, please confirm the following questions:

1. The output of sn65lvds31 is connected to sn65mlvd040 through DC coupling. Is there any problem?

2. Is there any problem that the output of sn65mlvd040 is connected to sn65lvds32 via DC coupling?

3. When using  sn65mlvd040 on the new equipment, does the terminal matching resistance need to be 100 Ohm or 50 Ohm?

PS: sn65mlvd040 is designed as TYPE1.

  • Hello Jeff,

LVDS and M-LVDS can interoperate without problem. The noise margins will be different (actually higher/better).
    1. No problem.
    2. No problem.
    3. On the output side of SN65MLVD040, you need double termination, 100 Ω each. One 100 Ω right at the output of SN65MLVD040 and one 100 Ω right at the input of the receiver.

    Regards,
    Yaser
