SN65HVD96: Battery powered device communication

Part Number: SN65HVD96

We are trying to power a device with around 25v and 40amp of power. The data would be send from the power source to the the sink(motors).

Does this require the inductors on the power source side for this to work ? I could not find resources for the max current limits on the bus.

If so, the inductors are important so that the differential signaling is not loaded by the power supply, which would typically have a low output impedance. The inductances are chosen so that they have low impedance at DC (or low AC frequencies for power delivery) but high impedance for the frequencies used for data transmission.

Do you want to transfer power on SN65HVD96's bus? Can you share the diagram? It sounds like you want to do data transmission over power line.

Hi Hao,

Yes I want to transfer power on the HVD96 bus. This is the example diagram we are trying to use. But, is there anyway to operate the system without the N1,N2 inductors ?

Hi,

N1 and N2 are necessary to block supply's DC voltage on the bus therefore the data can be transmitted. Otherwise the bus voltage is fixed to U3 voltage since the source has low impedance. For detailed simulation/discussion, please refer to this TI design.
