DS25BR204: Operating Temperature

Dear sir,

Our customer is using DS25BR204. And they measured the IC temperature is about 60 degreeC when operating.

They want to ask is it normal?? The temperature performance is okay or not??

    Hi,

    This does not seem abnormal.  There are many factors which contribute to the package and device temperature.  The datasheet thetaJA is ~27 degrees C/W with a typical power dissipation of ~0.5W I would expect the device to be ~14 degrees above ambient.

    Please note much of the heat dissipation of this small package is into the PCB GND plane.  If there are other heat sources close to the device, the temperature will likely be higher than expected using this quick estimation.
