LMH0318: LMH0050 CML output to LMH0318 with input pins swapped.

Part Number: LMH0318
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH0050,

Hello TI,

We want to connect the LMH0050 serializer output to the LMH0318 reclocker + driver as shown on the pictures below. But this results in crossing traces (below image). Is it possible to swap the input of the LMH0318 or the output of the LMH0050? I know that for NRZI data encoding it is polarity insensitive, but what are the consequences? One LMH0318 output goes to a FPGA (Xilinx Artix 7 with GTP Transceivers). The other LMH0318 output goes to a micro BNC connector.

Best regards,

Roelof

  • Hi Roelof,

Unfortunately, for some reason I could not view your image. Your image did not come through.

Yes you can swap LMH0050 output or LMH0318 inputs. As you noted, SMPTE SDI NRZ is polarity insensitive. Some applications use LMH0318 or other SDI devices for DVB/ASI where 8/10bit coded data is used - instead of SMPTE scrambled data. However, DVB/ASI is polarity sensitive. As along as you are not implementing DVB/ASI, I believe we should be fine.
