TPS65982: How is the solutions for variable voltage PD charger

Hi, Team

I want to develop a variable 5V to 20V PD charger, can the TPS65982 to do this? How can I recognize Sink requested message, can we read the message from PD controller register. For example, Sink side have requested a 7.5V voltage, how the PD charger get the requested message and adjust the switching power supply to output 7.5V for negotiation.

Or do TI have other solutions for variable voltage PD charger？

Hi Picher,

I would suggest using the TPS65987D for this design. You can refer to TIDA-050012 for a Power Source design with 5V, 9V, 15V, & 20V sourcing. The PD negotiation is all handled internally by the TPS65987D.

Exactly, I want to design a arbitrarily variable form 5V-20V power source. For example, if the Sink requests 7.5V then the power source adjust to 7.5V output. The sink may requests any voltage from 5V to 20V, how can we get the sink requests voltage message from Source PD Controller.

Hi Picher,

This would require the use of PPS (Programmable power supply). This is a feature in USB PD 3.0. We do not have a solution available with this functionality at this time.
