TCA4311: TCA4311 use problem

Hello:

I would like to consult you about the usage of TCA4311 chip. As shown IN the figure below, if I want to do hot plug and unplug, should my PSU PMbus connect IN or OUT of the chip?

Hi Leon,

Note that you may want to use TCA4311A instead, which is a pin-for-pin replacement with some improvements integrated. For both devices, though, the "IN" side is the one that would generally be connected to the portion of the system that will be hot plugged. Your block diagram looks correct to me.

Hey Leon,

Just to add, we also have our new TCA9511A device sampling currently which is our newest hotswap I2C buffer, it is pin to pin with TCA4311 and TCA4311A.

Please also note that the IN side of the device should not have pull up resistors populated on the board portion but should be populated on the backplane. (As Max pointed out, the IN side is the side that hot inserts.) This helps to allow the hot swap buffer to generate a 1V precharge before making connection to the backplane and lower the inrush current.
