TPD6S300: ESD protection w/ absence of Vin

Part Number: TPD6S300

Hi, everyone,

We have a question about TPD6S300 & TPD6S300A.

Are these ESD protection function is availale

even if there's no VIN present?

Best Regards,

  • Hello Maurice,

The expert for this device is currently out of the office and will be returning next week. Please expect a delay while they are out. Thank you in advance for your patience.

  • Hello Maurice,

Are you referring to the Vpwr pin? If so, the device needs power to operate and turn on the OVP FETs. Below shows one of the ESD protection pins, SBU, and the FET turn on in relation to the voltage on Vpwr. The FETs will remain off if the device is not powered.

    Thanks,

    Emma

  • Hi, Emma-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

    So do you mean

TPD6S300 cannot protect CC/SBU/D+/D- lines from ESD

if there's no Vin of TPD6S300 (ex. dead battery), right?

    Best Regards,

  • Hello Maurice-san,

Apologies, my explanation did not include device function in the case of no power. The TPD6S300 can protect the CC/SBU/D+/D- lines in the condition of dead battery because the OVP FETs are turned off to guarantee overvoltage protection in a dead battery condition. If the device does not have power, it will have the lines open and show the dead battery resistors on the C_CC pins. When the device is powered on, it will turn on the FETs and pass through the lines.

Ensure the dead battery resistors are shorted to the C_CC pins.

    Thanks,

    Emma
