SN65LBC184: Site failure issue, communication issue

Part Number: SN65LBC184

Hi,

We are using SN65LBC184 in one of our device, currently we are facing some issue with the communication with our RS485 base device both master and slave we have design, On site we have observed RS485 (SN65LBC184) failure means communication failure issue. in above case some time Master RS485 gets damage or sometime slave RS485 gets damage.

Also we have found some RS485 ic having transmit junk character. Slave device gets proper data but at receiving side we receives some of the junk character.

What will be the issue??? Damage and junk RS485 is more concern for us...

  • Sanjay,

I'm sorry to hear the issues. Could you give more detail about the system setup, like distance, data rate, network topology, system setup (bus termination, pull up/pull down, grounding), etc? If the devices are damaged, what's the failing signature? Do you see any abnormal voltage/current on the bus? In general the receiver rarely generates error bits with proper input signal. Do you have any waveform of the input? Please provide more information. I will help you debug. BTW, if you're interested, you can refer to this app note for RS-485 basics.

  • Hi,

www.ti.com/.../slla272c.pdf this link shows error it does not provide me any result.

    1. Distance is variable at different site, but we have observed it on less than 10meter length as well.

    2. Data rate is 9600 bps.

    3. it is peer to peer single device connected.

    4. RS485 master slave configuration and also some devices are in serial with RS485 lop,.

    5. we could not able to take waveform as this is at site.

    6. IT is not the old design we have already used this device many times.

It will be glad some test setup you can suggest to check our existing lot so we can avoid site escalation and issue.
