SN65HVD1040: EVM setup

Part Number: SN65HVD1040

hi Team,

my customer is using the SN65HVD1040, and its found that when they put 6 CAN device in series , the output voltage at CANH and CANL will become quite low ~2V and results unstable readings
the design needs to have 7 CAN BUS connect in series the total length is around 2M.

btw, is there EVM boards available for the device?

the connection as below, or is there other suggestions?

thanks

  • Hello John,

From what I can see from the schematic your termination resistor (the resistor between CANH and CANL) is the incorrect value. Is this how all of your CAN nodes are connected to the bus? This device like most CAN devices needs to have two 120 ohm termination resistors on only the first and last node to avoid reflections of the signal. Section 10.2.1 (pg. 19) of this datasheet details the different configurations of this device. It is also important that the stub lengths are less than 0.3 m, otherwise you will need to add resistors in order to reduce reflections in your system.

There is no EVM for the SN65HVD1040, but the same EVM for the TCAN1042 can be used for the SN65HVD1040 since the pin-outs are the same except the TCAN1042 does not have a SPLIT pin.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Best,

    Chris
