TPS25750: TPS25750: Usage on the sink side

Hello team,

My customer is considering TPS25750 at sink side. Does TPS25750 support USB BC1.2 of sink side?

The power supplies that need support are listed below.

USB 5V / 500mA, 5V / 900mA

USB BC1.2 5V / 1.5A

USB TypeC 5V / 1.5A (if possible PD also)

Is TPS25750 a suitable device for support these power supplies? I want to hear your opinion.

1. In the case of using on sink side, is the current path from VBUS to PP5V?

2. Is it necessary to separately negotiate USB 500mA, 900mA with a MCU connected to D + and D-? Or is it completed with only the TPS25750S?

(Power supply: USB 5V / 500mA, 5V / 900mA, USB BC1.2 5V / 1.5A, USB TypeC 5V / 1.5A (if possible PD also))

3. When the negotiation of BC1.2, TypeC Current, etc. is completed, which pin can check the flags?

Also do you have an example circuit with the TPS25750S as the sink side?

The PP5V to VBUS power path is for sourcing only. You must use the VBUS to PPHV power path for sinking power

The TPS25750 supports BC1.2 charging advertisement on the USB 2.0 lines

3. When the negotiation of BC1.2, TypeC Current, etc. is completed, which pin can check the flags?

You can reference the PWR_SRC. When this pin goes high, the TPS25750 is acting as the source.

We do not have any reference schematics for the TPS25750S, but it is almost identical to the TPS25750D. The only difference is the external power path for the sink power path. You can reference the TPS25750EVM

For #3, I have an additional question.

Can we use I2C pin to see what amps are negotiated? The customer want to check which USB type are connected at sink side.

Hello,

No, the TPS25750 does not currently support I2C slave functionality so your customer cannot use an external EC to communicate with the TPS25750.

The only status indicators that the TPS25750 has are the GPIO's which are explained in the datasheet. None of these GPIO's indicate the amount of current negotiated
