SN55183: About maximum rating of AND output pin (1Y, 1Z, 2Y, 2Z pin)

Part Number: SN55183

Hi,

Could you tell me about the AND output pin (1Y, 1Z, 2Y, 2Z) of SN55183.
Customers use this IC under the condition of VCC=5V.
In that case, 5V or more may be applied to 1Y, 1Z, 2Y, 2Z pin due to the pull-up of the latter stage circuit.

Is it a problem that a voltage higher than Vcc is applied?
And What is the maximum rating for 1Y, 1Z, 2Y, 2Z pin?

Best Regards
Yusuke

  • Hello Yusuke,

Since the Y/Z outputs have clamping diodes both to GND and to VCC (see equivalent schematic on page 3 of the datasheet), I would recommend keeping the voltages within these rails (or within at most 300-500 mV of them) in order to make sure these diodes do not become forward biased.

    Regards,
    Max
