TPS65982BB: TPS65982BBEVN does not display the billboard message

Part Number: TPS65982BB

Hi all,

I bought  TPS65982BBEVM.

I enabled BB_ENABLE by the No.2 of switch and connected the PA and  the host pc(usb type c).

I assumed that the billboard message displayed on the host pc, but it does not.

the LEDs(BB_OK, PA_PLUG, PA_VBUS) were lit.

How could I check TPS65982BB ?

I also try to control TPS65982BBEVM via i2c, but the billboard message does not display.

So I would like to check TPS65982BBEVM standalone.

  • Hello,

Could you describe your setup and how you are powering the EVM as well as the port partner? Also, do you happen to have PD log captures of this process by any chance?

I will look into this issue and get back to you once I discuss with my team.

    Thank you,

    Hari

  • Hi,

The host PC is HP ProDesk 600 G4.

    I tried two ways.

    [Using PA VBUS]

    1. Boot "HP ProDesk 600 G4"

    2. Set "ON" No. 2 of Switch on the EVM

    3. Connect USB type C port of "HP ProDesk 600 G4" and "PA" of EVM
(EVM power is supplied by PA VBUS)

    [Using micro B VBUS]

    1. Boot "HP ProDesk 600 G4"

    2. Set "ON" No. 2 of Switch on the EVM

    3. Connect USB type A port of "HP ProDesk 600 G4" and micro B of EVM
(EVM power is supplied by micro B VBUS)

    4. Connect USB type C port of "HP ProDesk 600 G4" and "PA" of EVM

    The both result is same.

I don't have PD log. How do I get  it?

    Thanks,

  • Hello,

Have you tried also on Port B of the EVM by any chance? You can use a PD Analyzer such as the one from Total Phase which will show you all of the communication messages that are being exchanged by the 2 PD controllers.

Also, could you let me how you are configuring the pins shown in Section 2.1.1 TPS65982BB GPIO Summary of the Host Interface document? I would recommend also referencing this document and the Datasheet to make sure you are not missing anything.

    Thank you,

    Hari

  • Hello,

I tried both, but it does not work.

So I get the external i2c controller and connect the EVM, and send the command.

After that, the billboard message was displayed on the host pc's monitor.

Next step, I would like to change the strings. How do I configure the program.
