DP83TC811S-Q1: Whether we need to power the VDDIO in sleep mode?

Part Number: DP83TC811S-Q1

Dear team,

My customer wants to know that whether we need to power the VDDIO(1.8V) when DP83TC811S-Q1 is in sleep mode. Because my customer wants to compute the power loss in the sleep mode. In addition, our device have remote wake-up function, if 1.8V power supply of pin22 is turned off in the sleep mode, can this function work normally?

There are two kinds of remote wake-up methods. One is through wake pin, and the other is energy detection on the MDI(solution 2). Is WoL the solution 2?

Thanks & Best Regards,

Sherry

  • Hello Sherry,

The DP83TC811S-Q1 still needs its 1.8V on pin 22 even if it is in sleep mode.

The energy detection on the MDI functionality is utilized when the PHY is in sleep mode. If the PHY detects any signal on the MDI data lines, it would wake up.

Wake-on-Lan (WoL) is not the second method to wake up the PHY. WoL provides a device above the PHY (MAC) to go into sleep mode, while the PHY itself is still active. If the PHY were to receive a specific signal, called the Magic Packet, it would then wake up the other device.

    Thanks,

    Gerome
