TPS65982BB: TPS65982BB status question

Part Number: TPS65982BB

Hi Team

Would you advise about my customer's TPS65982BBEVM status question below?

I was asked to confirm the status LOG difference compare to the LOG Jacob-san sent him before

to user6280070 who asked below E2E.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/f/138/p/914716/3452499#3452499

He tried TPS65982BBEVM boot thru I2C and finally succeeded it even it is not stable.

And He found the LOG difference.

He did below

1. Short the SPI_MISO in NO 3. of Dip SW’1.

2. Read first with I2C, and if there is ACK, it succeeds, otherwise it fails. I didn't understand the difference between the presence and absence of ACK. Is Timing related?

3. After I2C communication was successful, I checked the status of Ti82BB via I2C and returned with ‘APP’. In Jacob's Log, it was ‘BOOT’ and ‘PTCH’, so there is a difference.

4. I2C transfer was performed with the PTCx command, and when it was completed, it became Boot.

Thanks

Best regards,

Shidara

  • Hello,

Is your question why is the I2C boot not stable?

It is the fact that you continue to write to the PD controller after you receive a NAK. Receiving an ACK indicates that the TPS65982BB is powered up and ready to go, but if you write to the TPS65982BB before the device has powered up, you will receive a NAK

Recommend finding the root cause of why it ACK's in some situations but NAK's in others.

  • Hi Adam-san

    Thank you for your advice.

TI supporting team informed configuration pin connection advice that both H6 and H8 should be tied to ground.

According to this, the customer could startup stably.

    So please close this thread.

    Thanks

    Best regards,

    Shidara
