DS100BR111: SATA Configuration

Part Number: DS100BR111

Hi team,

I wanted check on a question for my customer related to the DS100BR111 data sheet. They are currently using this in a SATA redrive configuration. They configured it as specified in Section 6 with MODE connected via 1kOhm to GND. They have been having issues with a particularly poor signal integrity lane and believe that the OOBs are not being transferred correctly.

They reviewed the rest of the datasheet and 9.1.2 references that for SAS or SATA they should have it pulled to VDD for SAS/SATA configuration.  Could you help verify the correct configuration?

Thank you in advance for your support!

Errol

  • Hi Errol,

I believe this is a typo in section 9.1.2. This is because 1K-ohm to VDD puts the device into 10GbE mode - not SAS mode as this paragraph suggest. For fast OOB, MODE pin should be pulled to GND through 1k-Ohm resistor - as your customer have done.

Signal integrity could also be related to other parameters such as equalization settings as well. Your customer can put scope probe and try to see how far into SAT protocol negotiation device goes through when they are having this problem. This way we can determine if this is OOB related to perhaps there is not a good enough signal integrity at high speed.

    Regards,, Nasser
